CTV’s “The Social” – worst show on Canadian TV (excluding all CBC shows)? Yes.

Is CTV’s “The Social” Canada’s worst, dumbest show (excluding all CBC shows)? Yes we’re afraid so. It just might be.

It’s called “The Social,” but as you might have expected, it views like “The Socialists.” And the audience is apparently pulled from “The NDP.”

As if to make it worse, today they had the socialist NDP leader Tom Mulcair on it, touting his promised $5-BILLION per year (but it’s a government program, so please excuse the tripling or quintupling of the estimate) state-run, taxpayer-funded universal child day care social program. The audience clapped wildly for it all.

Later, we saw this all taking place behind a randomly-placed sign reading “I love you.” At which point we barfed.

Charles C.W. Cooke: Another Brazen Lie from the anti-gun group “Moms Demand Action”

Since we’re shooting holes in the left’s blatant lies being tossed around today, let’s go with this one too. (And yeah, the second Charles C.W. Cooke article we’ve referenced this week. The man’s on a roll.):

Another Brazen Lie from Moms Demand Action

On the outfit’s Facebook page, the image is furnished with a caption:

Dmitry Smirnov was prohibited from purchasing firearms because he wasn’t a U.S. citizen. But he was able to buy a handgun from a stranger online at with no questions asked. Less than two weeks later, Smirnov traveled to Chicago and murdered his ex-girlfriend, who he had been stalking. He shot her a dozen times

This is astoundingly, willfully, egregiously dishonest. Every single thing that Dmitry Smirnov did was already flatly illegal. He didn’t utilize any “loopholes”; he didn’t benefit from any ambiguities or exceptions in the law; he wasn’t freed up by a lack of “common sense” prohibitions. He just broke the existing rules.

Let’s go through this methodically:

…And he does. Meticulously.

This is the penultimate paragraph:

The bottom line: The law did not “fail Jitka Vesel.” Once again: Smirnov came into no contact with “loopholes in our law”; he just broke the existing rules. To suggest otherwise is deceitful in the extreme.

We enjoyed this tweet, too:

No income or payroll taxes? We hereby declare our love for Tennessee and Tennesseans.

What’s not to love, here?

Tennesseans to vote on banning income taxes

Most voters in Tennessee pay no income or payroll taxes. Next month, they will decide whether they want that to remain that way.

A state ballot referendum, Amendment 3, would write prohibitions of both income and payroll taxes into the state constitution, pushed by anti-tax advocates who are worried about previous government efforts to add an income tax. …

… The state’s main source of revenue is its 7 percent sales tax, the second-highest rate in the nation with four other states, according to the Tax Foundation. California’s is the highest at 7.5 percent. …

Tennessee climate

“Most of the state has a humid subtropical climate…”

Tennessee Economy

“For 2012, the state held an asset surplus of $533 million, one of only eight states in the nation to report a surplus. …”

Freedom to defend

“Concealed carry and open-carry of a handgun is permitted with a Tennessee handgun carry permit or an equivalent permit from any other state….”

House prices

“The median home value in Tennessee is $124,300. Tennessee home values have gone up 5.1% over the past year and Zillow predicts they will rise 2.9% within the next year. The median price of homes currently listed in Tennessee is $169,900. The median rent price in Tennessee is $990.”

“Online liberalism.” Charles C.W. Cooke nails it. Specifically “online liberal” Ezra Klein.

Charles_C.W._CookeCharles C.W. Cooke dismantles the latest liberal outrage, in particular, the infamous’s Ezra Klein, who endorses California’s controversial new sexual-consent law, which Cooke says “proposed a blunt increase in the power of America’s Star Chambers as the natural answer to the problem du jour…”

Take a few minutes and read about the online liberal you know so well.

The Illiberal Ezra Klein
Jettisoning due process for those accused of rape is a small price to pay for social change.
By Charles C. W. Cooke

…Klein has neatly illustrated just how dangerously capricious and supple the Progressive Hierarchy of Pieties really is. I daresay that it is rather easy to be a “liberal” when liberalism lines up nicely with the prevailing sentiments of one’s social cohorts. But it is much, much harder when it does not. Genuine “liberals” — those in the tradition of John Locke and Adam Smith, and not of Herbert Croly or Rachel Maddow — do not forsake timeless principle for last night’s orthodoxy because, for them, due process is as important today as it was at the time of Magna Carta. Ezra Klein, by contrast, appears to be something of a weathervane. Forced to choose between the universal principles of the Enlightenment and the transient pressure of this year’s moral panic, he plumped squarely for the latter. For shame. …

Progressives are on the Marx! Sorry, the march! Promise practically “free” daycare, “free” pharma; what else?

…And here’s a gratuitous picture of  Tom Mulcair and Karl Marx.

They also alternately demand “free” university, “free” housing (even “freer” than “free”?) for the poor, “free” hot breakfast and “free” lunch programs at schools, and naturally, even more “free” “healthcare” and more “free” public schools and hey, also “free” heroin for the drug addicts, “free” cocain as well, and but of course “free” internet for all, and “free” banking too!

The above was not an exaggeration. Those things are all actively being pursued by some or all of the Left.

Today, the you’ve got to be kidding party‘s Tom Mulcair promises to give practically “free” child day care to parents instead of parents being responsible for paying for their own children’s day care. And at the same time, the liberals’ Globe and Mail division is promoting an online poll hyping the idea of “free” prescription drugs.

Mulcair pledges billions for affordable childcare program

… the federal share would reach $5-billion annually …

But don’t worry, big-ass government welfare programs ALWAYS stay exactly within budget, and NEVER cost four to nine times what they were intended. And no, there is no slippery slope potential here. Stop sounding like such a conservative!

And here’s the Globe and Mail’s poll, today, in which 75% of the country favors the Marxist option. Which is a credit to Canada’s state-owned, state-run public education system, which bred this far-left mentality.

So yeah, they’re on the Marx.

Vote liberal.

“Man-made global warming” fail: water temp of Great Lakes 6 degrees colder than norm

Green Party-MayPAGING ELIZABETH MAY. Miss May please call your office.

Water temperature of the Great Lakes is over 6 degrees colder than normal

…Lakes Superior and Lake Michigan are currently six degrees colder than last year. …

Guess we won’t get a tweet from Greenie May about this blog entry, which, by the way, we’re posting only because you won’t find it in the Canadian liberal media.

You also won’t easily find any articles about the fact that the Antarctic has more ice than ever before. Or about Justin Trudeau’s myriad gaffes and lapses of sound, adult-quality judgement. Do we see a pattern here? Yes. science is settled. The debate: over. Thank you.

Happy Thanksgiving, and here’s a little history

imageAs I do almost every year in one space or another, I like to remind Canadians (and our Americans friends too) that in Canada, Thanksgiving is actually a Godly celebration for the express purpose of, yes, thanking God (or “almighty God”, as it is specifically stated in Canada’s Thanksgiving Proclamation). As we know, liberals are against that.

Yes that’s right, Thanksgiving is a national, Godly holiday in Canada by official parliamentary proclamation back in the 1950’s and earlier, actually.

The factual  background on Canada’s Thanksgiving as it pertains to its official designation in Canada is this: On January 31, 1957, Parliament (that’s the state!) issued a proclamation with that wording to permanently fix the second Monday in October as Thanksgiving… in order for the nation to thank Almighty God. In Canada, officially speaking, and by official proclamation in Canada’s Parliament (that’s the state!) Thanksgiving is:

“A day of general Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the
bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed.”

Church and state.  In Canada.  Oh my God   my heavens my word.  The end is nigh.  Wake the kids and call the dog.  Head for the hills.  Soon we’ll be a theocracy just like Iran.  Oh the humanity… and the “secular humanist” religion.  Etc. Etc. Well that was back in 1957. And we’re still not Iran.

Politics aside, happy Thanksgiving, Canada.

Even TMZ seems embarrassed by the president and his Hollywood liberals’ sycophancy.

The article’s headline stings right off the bat:

The first sentence sounds like something we’d have written:

The idiocy of Hollywood was in full bloom Thursday night when Gwyneth Paltrow turned an already-embarrassing Hollywood fundraiser into “The Dating Game.”

The second sentence leaves the stinging to the idiots themselves:

Paltrow — who hosted the event at her Brentwood home — gushed as she introduced President Obama, “You’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly.”

Then it gets worse – or better:

She then showed utter ignorance about, and contempt for, the Constitution and separation of powers — the basic tenant of our government — by saying, “It would be wonderful if we were able to give this man all of the power that he needs to pass the things that he needs to pass.”

And it keeps going like that.

They forgot to mention anything about income inequality, since it would be hideous to broach that subject in this story; or the carbon footprint of the presidential motorcade amongst the $10 million-dollar-homes (they do have video of it. It goes on for, like, 10 minutes.

China People’s Daily reports on liquor sales changes

HIDEOUS: A story on Big Gov’s change in plans for its state-controlled liquor sales reads like a China People’s Daily report. No – worse. Some points from the article:

Liberals “clarify” how alcohol can be sold in grocery stores

Grocers who want to sell liquor will have to generate 75% of their sales from food and operate a store that is at least 10,000 square feet …

An unspecified number of grocery stores will be given permission to start selling B.C. wine on store shelves. Otherwise, sales will be allowed via a store-within-a-store model that would have a separate cashier for an alcohol section. …

One big obstacle, however, is the government’s insistence that any grocers who want to sell alcohol must be at least one kilometre from an existing liquor store or get approval from the liquor-selling business owner who operates within that one-kilometre radius. …

The grocer would also have to buy one of B.C.’s 630 private liquor licenses and move it to the grocery store. …

B.C.’s parliamentary secretary for liquor policy reform, John Yap…

Dear God. The Liberal-led Big Government of BC has a “parliamentary secretary for liquor policy reform?”!

Meanwhile, we haven’t heard a word about this minor detail…

Unemployment falls to nearly six-year low
Most of the 74,100 new jobs created in September were full-time work, Statistics Canada says

Statistics Canada says the country’s economy generated 74,100 net new jobs last month, dropping the unemployment rate to its lowest level in nearly six years. …

You’d think Lisa LaFlamme would be going totally crazy with excitement over this dirty covert shenanigan trick on the part of the liberal media!

Side note: The liberals’ Toronto Star division managed to tuck this one into their “Business” section, seeing as it’s only people interested in business who would care about Canada’s unemployed and Canada’s economic health.

Liberalvision CTV’s LaFlamme flames Conservatives with burning BS

Breathless, freak-out style news reporting by liberalvision on October 8, 2014.

The term “dirty tricks” is not in the bill, we’re pretty sure. Clearly this is an alarmist term that the ever-so objective and professional anchor Lisa LaFlamme pulled out of her, well, head.

And “a covert plan?” Does she not know that bills have to be passed by Parliament, in this country? We guess that she does not. Or she doesn’t care. We guess that she simply wanted to make the Conservatives look bad, because she’s terribly biased against them. We think ours is a fair, reasoned, and calmly presented OPINION.

State-owned CBC mocks another news organization live on air.

So this is what we pay for now. Huh. We did not know that. CBC just mocked Sun News for lobbing a softball question at Harper. Sniffed that they were an “interesting network.” Irony, thy name is CBC.

Here’s the state-owned CBC’s anchor Andrew Nichols as he sneers that another news org is “an interesting network.” Politics reporter Rosemary Barton laughs her butt off as he snubs what we think is Sun News.

Ahhh. Good reporting. Feel the warmth.

David Akin [Facebook]

In 1989, The Supreme Court of Canada decided essentially upheld a lower court ruling that sided with John Turner’s Liberals in a dispute with CBC and CTV.
The Liberals had created an attack ad against Brian Mulroney’s PCs using footage from the election debates. CBC and CTV claimed copyright on the footage from those debates and wanted the Liberals not to use what they said was their material in the attack ads.
The Liberals went ahead with the ad containing the footage anyway.
CBC and CTV said, fine, they weren’t going to air the ads.
The Liberals sued. CBC and CTV lost in court; lost at the Supreme Court and were forced to run the ads.
Notably, CTV’s lawyer argued at the time that the decision could create a “chill” where broadcasters would be reluctant to broadcast future debates. Clearly, there has been no such chill.

Toronto Star fakes us out. Nicely played, TorStar.

Deep belly laughs: Big indignant story on big-union federal workers claiming various expenses and overtime. Since when does the big-union, and big-government-loving, progressive politics-advocating Toronto Star care about anybody living – particularly union workers – on the public dime? They feign the outrage, but wethinks they sort of actually applaud this sort of thing. But nice fake-out, TorStar.

CBC loves socialism – just not prepared to come out of closet yet.

So government-controlled housing, not free-market, in other words, CBC?

CBC won’t ask the question. That’s because CBC never likes to mention SOCIALISM. They prefer to simply advocate for it by passively retweeting socialist party platforms. This is a tactic of the Fabian Socialists. Wolves in sheeps’ clothing.

How progressives wreck society: take Quebec (no really, take it)

Quebec is in deep, deep financial trouble. Getting deeper by the second. It is and has for a long, long time, been led by progressives – variously named.

Highlighted in yellow are words and terms and phrases which belong in the dictionary definition of “progressive” – which you’ll be forgiven for likening to “socialism,” or for taking it to its logical conclusion: “serfdom.”

Lysiane Gagnon:

Quebec eyes its public-sector mammoth

… In Quebec, where bureaucratic inflation and the people’s resistance to change bear so much resemblance to France, Premier Philippe Couillard’s government is tackling an even larger creature: his entire provincial public sector, the largest in Canada. This creature was born in the wake of the Quiet Revolution and grew exponentially, as successive governments benevolently fed the monster under the threat of social unrest raised by aggressive labour unions, which had the power to close schools and hospitals to obtain more money for their members and enlarge their turf.

Considering the province’s staggering debt, its aging population and the fact that Quebeckers are the most taxed citizens in North America, all governments since the mid-1990s have felt the need to streamline the bureaucracy, although none could really accomplish it.

…The government wants to reduce the public administration’s budget by $3.2-billion …

(No, they don’t.)

Trudeau numbskullery fallout

liberal columnist Martin Lawrence:
Did Trudeau reject a Liberal combat plan?

There is concern in many quarters that the young leader is not ready for the big stage. That view will likely find more adherents now.

Ouch. That might leave a mark. We think that by “many quarters,” Martin is employing a tortuous, circuitous code term for “Liberals.” Liberals always create their own word definitions.

liberal media columnist Jeffrey Simpson:
This isn’t ‘Harper’s war’

“… Cheap shots should be ignored in politics. …”

Oh dear. This, from a liberal media columnist, part of a cadre who beclown themselves daily with cheap shots against Harper and all conservatives.

More regulation not the solution to the dispute between CRTC and Netflix

More regulation not the solution to the dispute between CRTC and Netflix

The current dispute between Netflix and the CRTC, which may ultimately be decided in court, highlights the need for the deregulation of Canada’s broadcasting industry, finds a new essay released today by the Fraser Institute, an independent, non-partisan Canadian public policy think-tank.

… “If the CRTC were to impose content restrictions online, it would be censoring the Internet—a concept many Canadians would likely oppose,” Globerman said. …

We like that last sentence as case study in understatement. Imagine Chinese communist-style control of the internet, in Canada. That’s what is at play, here.

The E.U. has rightly dropped its phony “dirty oil” label for Canada’s oilsands oil, but that doesn’t stop liberalvision CTV…

Liberalvision CTV and their anchor Marcia MacMillan go ahead and report on the story today purposely using the even more phony label, CTV-dirty-reporting-capture_20141007_084058(360crop)“tar sands,” to describe the oil sands.

The term “tar sands, like “dirty oil,” is well-known (amongst the those of us who get their news from non-CTV sources, obviously) to be a creation of left-wing extremists and anti-oil zealots, and their left-wing lobby groups, largely funded by anti-oil Americans, who literally dreamt-up the terms to mass-market their hate-on for the Canadian oil industry.

“Tar sands” is well known, certainly in the news reporting business, to be a negative,CTV_News.ca_logo tendentious, politically-charged label which is used only by leftists and anti-oil zealots and radicals. The proper, non-political term to describe the oil is oil sands

Aside from somebody – presumably another left-winger at CTV – ensuring that the word “TAR SANDS” appeared in big letters on their chiron, MacMillan joined in referring to the oil sands as “tar sands” twice, in her awful, deceptive reporting:

“The European Union has dropped plans to label TAR SANDS crude as ‘dirty oil’ … the process of extracting oil from the TAR SANDS…”

That’s some great reporting, CTV, and MacMillan. Again.

Clearly, our taxes are too high.

Ottawa on track for $71-billion in surpluses over six years, TD finds

Bypass the middle man and read the TD’s actual report (PDF) here, if you like.

It’s a pretty big deal, since the economy has been all over the news, world-wide, since the recession started in 2007, and generally speaking the economy matters, right?

Well we couldn’t find the story about the big TD surplus report at liberalvision CTV. Or at the liberals’ the Toronto Star division.  Or at any of Postmedia’s liberal newspapers including the National Post or the Vancouver Sun. Or at the state-owned CBC.

They all chose to not report on that story. To not inform you about it.

Is it any wonder the Liberals and NDP poll as they do, when the liberals’ media division refuse to publish reports on the Conservative government’s successes?

This is shameful liberal-left media bias. It’s a media with an agenda. And you can’t trust a media with a left-wing agenda.

Wall Street Journal is covering it.

Glavin: We’re going to war because we’ve been doing it Jack Layton’s way in Syria, Iraq

… All Mulcair managed to do today was to confirm that he’s happier to drag the NDP back into the “anti-war” comfort zone of his party’s earth-tones airhead bloc. …

… This is the reason Syria’s blood-soaked human terrain resembles nothing so much as the floor of a butcher shop. We’ve been doing it Jack Layton’s way. We’ve been doing it Thomas Mulcair’s way and Justin Trudeau’s way and Elizabeth May’s way, and carrying on like this is exactly what the Opposition proposes that Canada do. …
